Taye Diggs, Idina Menzel announce separation after decade of marriage

The ‘Rent’ couple would have celebrated their 11-year wedding anniversary in January.

Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel have separated after 10 years of marriage, a rep for the couple confirmed to People magazine.

The lights on Broadway might dim a little for one of its star couples.

After 10 years of marriage, Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel have announced they are separating.

"Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have jointly decided to separate at this time," reps for the couple confirmed to People magazine in a statement.

"Their primary focus and concern is for their son. We ask that you respect their privacy during this time."

 The "Rent" duo, who met while co-starring on the original Broadway production of the musical and later reprised their roles in the 2005 film version, were married in January of 2003. They have one son together — Walker, 4.

Menzel, 42, who won a Tony Award for her witchy role in "Wicked," spoke to People earlier this year, saying that their marriage wasn't always picture perfect.

"We work at it," she said in April.

The couple would have celebrated their 11-year anniversary in January. They have one son together.

"I'm not going to glamorize it or glorify it — we go through tough times like everybody else, but we love each other very much. We try not to be away from each other for more than two weeks at a time, and we try to find new ways to communicate."

The couple also fielded rumors of Diggs' infidelity over the summer, but the "Private Practice" actor, 42, recently told Katie Couric in a sit down on Nov. 11 that he and his wife were doing well.
