Katherine Webb, Alabama QB A.J. McCarron split

The Crimson Tide quarterback and former Miss Alabama girlfriend end their high-profile romance amid busy schedules and cheating rumors.

Former Miss Alabama Katherine Webb and Albama quarterback A.J. McCarron are no longer a couple.

Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron apparently fumbled the ball on the greatest catch of his life — Katherine Webb.

“Yes (they've broken up),” Katherine’s mother, Leslie Webb, told RadarOnline of the end of a high-profile, year-long romance between Webb, 24, and McCarron, 23.

Webb made a splash during her brief run on the ABC reality diving competition, 'Splash.'

“Katherine’s just trying to stay real busy.”

The Millenial royal couple captured the attention of the nation after Webb was spied in the stands rooting for McCarron’s Crimson Tide during January’s BCS Championship Game.

 

Webb attends The 2013 ESPY Awards at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in July, a month after a report that her high-profile boyfriend was cheating.

After the television cameras lingered on her, 73-year-old announcer Brent Musburger made the cringe-worthy observation, “That's AJ McCarron's girlfriend. You quarterbacks, you get all the good-looking women. What a beautiful woman. Wow."

Especially shocking to college football fans was the idea that an Auburn grad like Webb would be dating a quarterback from her school’s arch-rival, Alabama.

“People call us the Romeo and Juliet of Alabama,” she told Vanity Fair in March.

The national exposure helped Webb, the reigning Miss Alabama at the time, land a gig as Super Bowl correspondent for “Inside Edition” and a spot on the reality diving competition, “Splash.”

Her newfound fame and McCarron’s football responsibilities kept the couple apart for long stretches.

Webb caught the eye of Brent Musburger and the rest of the nation during the BCS title game in January, as she rooted for her then-boyfriend McCarron's Crimson Tide over Notre Dame.

Then in June, a 21-year-old Maxim model named Margaret Wood, claimed that she spent the night at McCarron’s Tuscaloosa home — but also insisted that she’s just friends with the quarterback.

“We were hanging out at his house, and I had been drinking, so he didn’t want me to drive,” Wood told Radar at the time. “I did not stay at a hotel. That’s all I can say. I’m trying to be careful about what I say because I feel really bad.”

More recently, there were other signs of trouble in paradise: Webb and McCarron unfriended each other on Twitter.
